It was an early start for the Point to Point brigade today with a 10.00 am start at Tattersalls Farm for the Louth Foxhound meeting.
With a strong entry every race with the exception of the Open and the Winners contests all other races were divided doubling the expected 6 race card to 12.
Jamie Codd was on the road early to get to the track but it was all worth it for the south county Wexford man as he rode a Fantastic Five Timer on the day.
Riding arguably better than he has ever done, he set the ball rolling in the first division of the 4 year old maiden when winning on the debutante Tell Us More. Trained by his brother William the Scorpion gelding is owned by William Drew and looks likely to be sold on if an opportunity presents itself.
The Codd brothers didn’t have to wait long to record a double as they took the second divide of this race as well with Shady Glen. This Dr Massini 4 year old currently races in the colours of William Codd himself but it would be a surprise it that remained so for much longer.
Codd has always been an attractive booking for “outside yards” and this continued here with Co Wexford based Liz Doyle booking him for the ride on Copote in the third division of the 5 year old geldings maiden. Glen Howletts son of Oscar was running for the first time and did the business on the day.
The Older horses maiden saw 65 entries with Codd taking two of the three divisions of the race. Norman Lees’s Bashful Beauty finally came good here with the High-Rise 6 year old gelding taking the second division for his Co Galway based trainer.
Codd’s fantastic day saw him take the last contest on the card when Co Westmeath based William Ross gave him the leg up on his uncle Cecil Ross’s Ben of Fore to bring the curtain down on a memorable day. This Rudimentary horse has been knocking on the door and deserved a win.
Of course Codd wasn’t the only winner on the day with Barry O’Neill winning on Shesaportrait and Taylors Cross, PA King on Springbelle, Declan Lavery on Maximiser, RW Barron on A Stray Shot, John Barry on Ballyadam Dancer and Larry Murphy on Witness of Fashion.But in all honesty the day belongs to Jamie Codd with a Fantastic Five Timer on an ultra competitive card stealing the show.
