Aintree Grand National Preview

The Aintree Grand National is now the focus of many in racing with the world famous race due off at 4.15 on the 5th of April.

The original entry of 115 has been whittled away some what with 73 still listed.

Willie Mullins has taken out On His Own following his strong showing in the Cheltenham Gold Cup while Ted Walshes Seabass who disappointed at Down Royal on Patricks Day has also been sctratched.

Tidal Bay and Long Run are still standing with these two classy horses heading the weights and likely now to compress many of the bottom weights at 10 stone.

Both of these will have their supporters with the Wileys and Waley Cohens likely to see their horses run prominently.

When you add in Rocky Creek for Paul Nicholls and Triolo D’Alene for Nicky Henderson both of these yards look strong in this years renewal.

Enda Bolger will likely hold off for another few weeks before deciding to commit Mossey Joe to the big one. With 11st 1lb the Barry Connell horse has won his only point to point this year and could run in the Foxhunters at the same meeting therebye preserving his qualification in this category.

The progressive trio of Mr Moonshine, Teaforthree and Double Seven have all had a recent run but their racing weights looks attractive from this distance.

The same can be said of Michael Scudamores Monbeg Dude and Sunnyhillboy for Jonjo O’Neill.

Alan and Ann Potts have two horses still in the mix with Henry De Bromhead’s, Buckers Bridge and Jim Dreaper’s Goonyella carrying their well known “Sizing” colours.

Wyck Hill , might , just might sneak in from 4lb out of the handicap for David Bridgwater with the JP McManus owned Eider chase winner lacking nothing on stamina grounds.

It promises to be a great spectacle with the going likely to be the key on the day but thats for another day!.
